Trophy Wall

Embroidered and Screen Printed Dish Towels and Washcloths, Cement, Nails

Each individual “trophy” represents my relationship to the domestic mundane; the weight carried when bound to traditional gender roles; and the dreams put on hold in the name of caring for one’s family. As a Mother Artist, I am learning to push back against the interruptions domestic work causes and am prioritizing my art practice above my domestic duties. This is both an act of rebellion and evidence of triumph. These cemented dish towels and washcloths, the most functional of domestic items, have been rendered completely non-functional. Putting them to work again would be an impossible and even absurd task.
